Plainfield, Conn. (WTNH) - A Plainfield man was arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery Friday.
The incident happened shortly after 7 p.m., at Bestway Food and Fuel, located at 2 Prospect Street in Moosup village of Plainfield.
While police were responding to the panic alarm, they received a call from the clerk saying that a white man had come into the store, displaying a knife and demanding money.
Police said the suspect was unable to get any money, since the clerk fled the store.
A witness who saw the vehicle flee the scene was able to positively identify it as a 2001 Chevy Impala with CT registration 962XMB.
State Police later located the vehicle at 60 Major Dr., in Plainfield.
The suspect, 35-year-old Justin C. LaPorte, of 60 Major Dr., was positively identified by the clerk and by video surveillance from Bestway.
LaPorte was charged with first-degree criminal attempt at armed robbery, second-degree criminal attempt at larceny, second-degree breach of peace, and second-degree threatening.
LaPorte was held on $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 27th.
