HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Hartford police say a man accused of raping, punching and trying to strangle a Hartford woman left behind his cellphone that led to his arrest.
The Hartford Courant reports that police say the woman allegedly attacked by Kenneth Maestas heard a cellphone ring. She said she used it to call police.
Police officers found the woman hanging out a window Saturday night.
The 42-year-old Maestas of Hartford was arrested on Sunday.
He was ordered held on $750,000 bail after his arraignment Tuesday in Superior Court in Hartford. Charges include aggravated sexual assault, strangulation, unlawful restraint and threatening. It's not known if he is represented by a lawyer.
Detectives used the cellphone to dial recently called numbers and located an East Hartford woman who said she was the aunt of Maestas' girlfriend.
