Police identify Waterbury homicide suspect

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- Waterbury police say they have developed a suspect after a man was found shot to death inside a car.

Police are searching Luis Colon Ortega, 24, in connection with the April 29 murder of Danny Gonzalez on Willow Street in Waterbury.

Gonzales was driving down Willow Street when police say Ortega shot him from the back seat of the car. Gonzalez died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head.

Officers suspect the shooting stemmed from a dispute earlier in the night.

Police say Ortega recently moved to Connecticut from Puerto Rico. He has a criminal history in Puerto Rico and was just released from prison there in November 2011 where he served time for weapons charges.

It appears that Ortega has fled the state, so officers are working with the US Marshals to track Ortega.

Police say they expect to file charges against a second suspect who served as an accomplice.
