Resident catches booze burglar in the act

Branford, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Branford man called police after catching a burglar stealing tools and booze from his garage Saturday morning.

Around 1 a.m. the man called police upon arriving home and finding a 23-year-old neighbor burglarizing his garage.

When the 911 operator asked, "where is he now sir," the man replied, "I have him by the jacket up against the garage door."

When police arrived they arrested Alexander Laudano, of 18 Windmill Hill Rd., who was still being held by the captor as his two elder parents were sleeping in the home.

According to police, Laudano was in the middle of stealing power tools and beer from the garage when he was captured.

After investigating, police found that Laudano was also responsible for stealing items from at least three other parked cars in the area.

Sgt. David Galdenzi, who supervised the investigation said, "we were surprised when dispatched informed us that the complainant was holding the suspect by the shirt at the scene. This young thief got quit an earful from the resident in the three minutes that it took us to arrive."

Laudano was charged with first-degree burglary and four counts of sixth-degree larceny.

He was released from custody on a $2,500. bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven court on April 24th.
