Second New Haven homicide in 24 hours

Rally to help stop violence Sun. at 2 p.m.

New Haven, CT (WTNH) - Police are investigating another deadly shooting. This one happened Saturday night at the corner of Dixwell and Henry in front of the Hot Spot grocery store.

It is now the second homicide in this neighborhood in the last 24 hours, the fifth in the city of New haven in the last eight days and the 11th homicide so far this year.

Channel News 8 captured exclusive video of police apprehending and arresting the suspect at the scene.

With eleven murders so far this year, the community is going through a multitude of emotions. They want to have something done now,

Rev. Scott Marks with the New Growth Outreach Ministries said, "Our sons, our fathers, our brothers, our sisters, our mothers, our daughters are dying on these streets daily.

"On easter Sunday -- high holy day -- a murder happened right here... If there was ever a time to stand up, now is the time to stand up. There's a call for prayer and peace in the city of New Haven," he continued.

Rev, Marks is calling for all religious leaders in New Haven, all politicians, police, all government workers, church-goers, temple-goers to go to the corner of Dixwell and Henry on Sunday, Apr, 11 at 2 p.m. for a rally to help stop the violence.

No identification yet on the victim.

One person was arrested.

Police will continue their investigation.
