NEW MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police in New Milford are investigating an early morning shooting near a motel that left one man wounded.
"We're still trying to chase down some leads," explained Lt. Lawrence Ash of New Milford Police.
Anything to figure out who it was that shot a man on Route 7 in New Milford around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. Police kept the road closed for hours.
"We're not identifying the victim at this time," said Ash. "He's a 29-year-old resident of New Milford."
The victim is in stable condition at Danbury Hospital. Detectives spent the morning interviewing him. They say it is possible he and the shooter know each other.
"We believe that the shooter has fled the area," Ash said.
An area snarled by morning traffic was made worse when a semi hit a bridge on a detour route. Visitors at two motels were also displaced.
"They're not allowed back in to their residences yet, until we've finished collecting evidence," Ash said.
