COLCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Colchester man was arrested after police say he fired two guns in his backyard while he was under the influence of alcohol.
School administrators at the William J. Johnson Middle School called police around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon after they heard several gun shots near the school.
Police secured a perimeter and later determined the shots came from the back of 252 Norwich Avenue.
A resident of one of the apartments, 42-year-old Michael Brinson, admitted to police that he fired a handgun and a shotgun behind his building.
Police say Brinson was under the influence of alcohol and he did not possess a pistol permit.
The weapons were seized and Brinson was arrested. He was released on a $1,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in court on September 20.
While police were on the scene, all students were required to stay inside.
No injuries were reported.
