ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) — Police have identified an intruder who was stabbed to death following an altercation with a Vermont homeowner.

Police say 30-year-old Ryan Morton-Lane of Storrs, Conn., was identified Sunday through fingerprints.

Police said he told Essex Junction homeowner Shawn Garrett early Friday he had "a blade." Police got a call from Garrett's 13-year-old son who said his father was fighting with the intruder.

An autopsy determined Morton-Lane had injuries consistent with a struggle and that he died of a stab wound to the chest that penetrated the heart. Garrett suffered minor injuries.

Police said Morton-Lane used three street names and had a criminal record in Connecticut.
