BERLIN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A rash of car break-ins has homeowners in Berlin more than a little bit concerned.
Tucked away in a quiet Berlin subdivision, Kensington Woods, police say thieves kept busy here before the sun even came up.
"It's pretty surprising," said Andrea Raynor of Berlin. "It's a nice little area."
The criminals must have thought that too. Five victims came to police, saying their cars had been broken into.
"Well, I don't feel too good about it. I always thought this was a pretty good neighborhood," said Sue Anderson of Berlin.
This is the second stop for thieves this week. Just on Thursday, they hit 12 vehicles just down the street from Kensington Woods.
The first string happened at Prentice Place. Neighbors say they saw broken windows, but some made it too easy for criminals. Many left their doors unlocked, but not Sue Anderson.
"Yes, I...faithfully [lock my doors] and I don't leave anything in view," she said. "I don't leave anything valuable in the car. In case anybody wants to know, [laughs], I have nothing of value."
It's a good message to get out, considering no arrests have been made in both of these cases.
"I guess I'd be a little worried, but hopefully they don't come back," said Raynor.
In the past, neighbors said they never lived in fear of such crimes.
"I always felt very secure here, so it's very disheartening to hear," said one neighbor about the break-ins.
Police encourage Berlin residents to call police at (860) 828-7080 to report any suspicious activity.
