WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police say a domestic disturbance case turned into a water rescue after a man jumped into Long Island Sound.
27-year-old Albert Stober arrived at a relative's home on First Street in West Haven just before 6 p.m. on Sunday evening and refused to leave, prompting the homeowner to call police.
Officer say they believed Stober was under the influence of a narcotic, possibly PCP, due to his movements and actions.
Police tried to arrest him when he became threatening, but he was able to escape and jumped into Long Island Sound.
West Haven Police Marine 1, West Haven Fire Department and The Coast Guard were all called in to rescue Stober, who was swimming towards New Haven.
Authorities say Stober threatened them, saying he had a knife and would stab anyone who came too close.
Stober eventually became tired and allowed officers to rescue and arrest him.
Stober, who has an extensive criminal history, was charged with disorderly conduct, threatening, trespassing, reckless endangerment, and interfering with police. He was held on bond.
