ROCKVILLE, Conn. (AP) — An appeal trial will be resuming in the case of a Connecticut man who was freed from prison in 2010 but returned to custody last year after his murder conviction was reinstated.

Fifty-year-old George Gould's habeas corpus trial is scheduled to continue Tuesday in Rockville Superior Court.

Gould and co-defendant Ronald Taylor served more than 16 years in prison for the killing of New Haven grocery owner Eugenio Deleon Vega in 1993. Both men were freed in April 2010 when a judge in the first appeal trial declared them innocent, but the state Supreme Court overturned that ruling in July 2011 and ordered a new trial.

Taylor died of colon cancer in October.

The judge in the first trial declared the two men victims of "manifest injustice."
