HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A former Windsor Locks police sergeant is going on trial for allegedly hindering an investigation of his son in connection with a car accident that killed a 15-year-old boy in 2010.
Robert Koistinen's (KOY'-stih-nens) trial is scheduled to start Monday in Hartford Superior Court. He's charged with third-degree hindering prosecution, which carries one to five years in prison.
His son, Michael Koistinen, is serving a five-year prison sentence for manslaughter for the car accident that killed Windsor Locks High School student Henry Dang, who was riding a bicycle. Michael Koistinen also was a Windsor Locks police officer at the time. Both men were fired after the accident.
Police say Michael Koistinen was off-duty, intoxicated and speeding when he hit Dang.
Robert Koistinen denies that he interfered with the investigation.
