Prospect, Conn (WTNH) - Police have arrested two men in connection with a bank robbery on Saturday morning in Prospect.
The robbery took place at the Wells Fargo Bank on Waterbury Road just before 10:00am. Two men, later identified as Kevin Shuff, 21, and Terrance Phillips, 31, both of Waterbury, entered the bank, took out guns, and demanded cash from a teller. Emergency calls to 9-1-1 reported that a shot fired inside the bank.
Shuff and Phillips received an undisclosed amount of cash, ran out the door, and drove away in a black Chevy Blazer.
"Witnesses were able to give troopers and officers tremendous discriptions of the suspects. That allowed a trooper the chance to intercept and observe the suspect vehicle, and begin to chase it, and attempt to stop it," Connecticut State Police Lieutenant J. Paul Vance said.
The suspects tried to make a get-away in a black Chevy, but with police in hot pursuit, the driver lost control of the vehicle.
"Both individuals tried to escape on foot. One was apprehended immediately. A short time later the other was apprehended. Both suspects were in custody," said Vance.
Fast acting police work, aided by public support, turned this into a textbook capture.
"This was a cooperative effort with the resident state trooper in Prospect working with state and Waterbury police. All law enforcement converging with the help of good witness information," Vance said.
Shuff and Phillips have both been charged with robbery, larceny, reckless endangerment, and other charges. They are being held on $500,000 bond each. They are both scheduled to appear in court in Waterbury on Monday.
