Teen killed in Bridgeport shooting

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Two shootings in Bridgeport early Saturday morning have left two dead, including a 15-year-old girl, and two more injured.

Right around midnight, Mi Lin Zhao, 30, and his wife were walking home after closing up their restaurant, Hong Thom restaurant, when they were confronted by with African American men.

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, told News 8 she heard the gunshot that came next.

"And I see the guy's body here and I guess his brother-in-law was holding his head," explained the woman, "and the whole family is up and down trying to call 911."

Police say the two men on the street tried to grab a bag Zhao was holding and when he resisted, they shot him in the chest.

"Well, I thought it was money," the woman said about the bag, "but what I heard was it was food, food from the restaurant."

Zhao was killed in the shooting, and police say whoever did it is still on the loose.

"Which is kind of scary," said neighbor Cher Juarez, "...and they were such a nice family, hard-working."

What is so disturbing to neighbors is that these folks got robbed, one of them killed, just going from their restaurant immediately next door to their home.

Of course, just as disturbing is a scene on the other side of town where folks were shot at just sitting on a front porch.

Three teenagers had just left a Sweet 16 party and were sitting on the porch of a house on Brooks Street when police say two male African Americans opened fire, then ran.

Another neighbor didn't want to be identified, but she said she had just heard the teenagers talking about the fun they had at the party.

"Next thing you know, I went in the house and just heard gunshots," the woman said. "When I came out, that's when the little baby was laying on the porch. Well, the little girl."

Fifteen-year-old Keijahnae Robinson was shot in the head, and later died at Bridgeport Hospital. The other two were hit but not critically injured.

One stray bullet went through a neighbor's wall and into the bedroom ceiling. Right below those bullet holes is where a child was sleeping.

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch released the following statement about the shootings:

"This senseless tragedy has my full attention and that of our police force. We will continue to work tirelessly with the State of Connecticut, federal authorities and leaders at every level to tackle the extremely tough issue of gun violence that is impacting cities all over our country. In the near term, I look forward to the City Council's upcoming vote on the revision to the curfew ordinance, which will give us another tool to help keep order in the City.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the families of Keijahnae Robinson, and restaurant owner Mi Lin Zhao. Both are innocent victims of the widespread use of illegal guns in our society, and this strengthens my resolve to continue to advocate for the closure of illegal gun-sale loopholes through Mayor Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns effort."
