FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Fairfield Police are trying to identify who stole the purse of an elderly woman in a grocery store.
Police say two people -- a man and a woman -- acted together to take the 86-year-old woman's purse on Dec. 21 at the Shop Rite store on Black Rock Turnpike.
According to police, the man approached the elderly woman in the frozen food aisle and started asking her questions. While he distracted her, his cohort grabbed her wallet.
The female suspect was later seen thumbing through the victim's wallet before stuffing it in her own purse and leaving the store.
The surveillance video released by Fairfield police also shows the two suspects entering and leaving the store, but not the theft itself.
The man is described by police as black, about 5'8", slender, in his 30's or 40's. He had a beard and mustache, and was wearing glasses, a dark hat and dark clothing.
His accomplice is also black, about 5'7", heavyset, and also in her 30's or 40's. She had long curly brown hair pulled back with a dark headband and was wearing a brown leather coat.
Anyone who may recognize the people in the video is asked to contact the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau at 203-254-4840, or mgagner@town.fairfield.ct.us.
