Bridgeport, Conn . (WTNH) - Two people were shot this afternoon in separate incidents at a Bridgeport housing complex. One person was shot by a police officer after that suspect pulled a gun.
It happened around 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Harral and Highland Avenues section of the city.
Police say an officer on a routine call in the area of the Greene Homes apartment buildings heard shots fired in the area of Building 1.
During his investigation, Officer Ned Love was confronted by a man carrying a handgun and ordered the man to drop the weapon. The suspect, instead, raised the gun in the officer’s direction.
Police say Officer Love then fired one shot and struck the suspect in the left leg.
The suspect, 21-year-old Armando Gonzalez of Bridgeport, was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Gonzalez was arrested on various charges, including Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
In a separate incident in the same building, an unidentified shooting victim was taken to Bridgeport Hospital by a private vehicle where he is listed in stable condition.
That shooting is still under investigation.
The police officer, who was not injured, has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation that is routine in an officer involved shooting.
Acting Police Chief Joseph Gaudett stated, "By all indications, Officer Love acted bravely and appropriately in the performance of his duties in his apprehension of a dangerous felon."
