NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A woman says she fired shots at her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend after she tried to ram into her with a car.
Police were called to 161 Lenox Street in New Haven at 1:15 a.m. Friday morning after neighbors reported hearing gunshots.
On the scene, police found Shirley Ann Warren sitting in a silver Audi outside. She told police a woman inside the building had shot at her.
Police went to the apartment and found Cory Maddox and Tamisha Serrano. Serrano admitted to officers that she fired the shots.
After questioning the trio, police say they got two very different versions of the story.
Warren told police she ran into Maddox, her ex-boyfriend, at the Owl's Nest and he invited her over to his apartment. However, when she arrived, he wouldn't answer the door or her phone calls. When he finally came downstairs, he told her to leave because his new girlfriend, Serrano, was inside. As the pair talked inside the car, Warren told police Serrano came out and shot at them. When the shots stopped, Warren called police while she smashed out a window on Maddox's car.
Maddox told police a different version of the events. He admitted to seeing Warren at the Owl's Nest, but he said no when she asked if she could stop by his apartment. When he got home, she showed up anyway. He told officers that when he saw his car had been damaged Serrano went outside to confront Warren. He heard the women get into a fight, and then he heard the shots fired.
Serrano told police she confronted Warren after she saw her damaging Maddox's car. She also said she saw Warren urinate in the parking lot next to her car. Serrano told officers that when she went outside, Warren threatened to assault her, and tried to ram her with the Audi. That's when Serrano said she decided to shoot out the tires of the Audi.
Officers were able to recover and seize the gun. Both women were arrested.
27-year-old Serrano was charged with risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, criminal attempt to commit assault, breach of peace and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Warren was charged with trespassing, criminal mischief and breach of peace.
DCF was notified because Maddox's two children where in the apartment during the incident.
