NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police are investigating after occupants of a Ford Explorer were assaulted in New Haven, chased onto I-91 and then shot at several times Monday morning.
According to police, a victim was punched by unknown subjects while sitting in the Ford Explorer. Then numerous beer bottles were thrown at the Explorer as it fled for the parking lot area of a night club, off I-91 Exit 2.
Police said the occupants of the Explorer drove away from the scene and got onto I-91 northbound. They were followed by an unknown pickup truck.
Then in the area of Exits 13 and 14, in Wallingford, a four-door gray Nissan Altima traveled directly behind the Explorer and fired approximately seven shots, shattering windows and striking one of the occupants in the left buttocks.
Both of the suspect vehicles fled off the highway.
Police were unable to locate the suspects or the suspect vehicles.
Both the shooting victim and the assault victim were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The incident is under investigation.
