NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- An amazing video of a struggle between a New Haven store clerk and a robber. Even though the clerk was smaller, he did more than hold his own.
It was 4:30 Monday afternoon. Police say the man in the hooded sweatshirt is 21-year-old Darren Cogswell of New Haven.
He walked into Nim's store on Chapel street, pointed a gun and told the owner, 42-year-old Jae Lee to give him the cash. Lee did, dumping it into his backpack but as Cogswell leaves Lee grabs a police baton from behind the counter and goes after him.
There is a wild struggle. Cogswell ends up wtih the baton hitting Lee then Lee wrestles it back.
Cogswell starts to beat him with the pellet gun he is carrying.
During the battle a female clerk ran to the back room to call 911.
When police finally got there Lee was still holding Cogswell and police arrested him.
Lee wound up with a cut to his head and a bite on his thumb. Cogswell had some of his clothing ripped off and bruises on his face.
He's facing charges of first degree robbery, larceny, assault and carrying a dangerous weapon.
