West Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - A bomb scare evacuated the West Haven Walmart Friday afternoon.

A customer called police around 3 p.m. after they noticed a small black suitcase left near a carriage return area in the parking lot. Customers were evacuated from the store and the parking lot was closed to traffic.

The New Haven Police Department's Emergency Services Unit responded to the scene with its bomb technicians and X-rayed the bag, which turned out to be empty.

The store was re-opened by 4:30 p.m.
