Clinton, Conn. (WTNH) - A woman was arrested after using counterfeit bills to pay for goods at a strip mall.

Eileen Rivera, 22, was arrested and charged with forgery and larceny on December 6 as she was shopping at the Clinton Crossing Outlet Center.

According to police, Rivera was working with a counterfeiting group from Peru and New York city.

Rivera was purchasing items between $15 and $20 from stores and paying the clerk with a fake $100 bill. By doing this, she was laundering the fake money, and receiving goods and real cash change in exchange.

The New Rochelle resident was held on a $75,000 and is scheduled to appear before the Middletown Superior Court on December 7.
