South Norwalk (WTNH) - Commuters will tell you they get to know their conductors. So, many are outraged by seeing surveillance photos that seem to show the suspects all smiles after allegedly beating up a conductor.

"To assault the person and then be all happy and skipping when you get off the train," Trisha Kirkland, of South Norwalk, said.

The group allegedly attacked the conductor right in the train, the Norwalk Hour says they had boarded with fake tickets.

The 61-year-old female conductor ended up with two broken fingers and a cut below her eye.

Security cameras at the South Norwalk station captured the group fleeing the scene.

Although images have been passed out to train personnel, we found no sign of them at local stations and there were no alerts to passengers.

"I would defintely want to know. I'll be thinking about it as I take the train today, but they should have advertised it a little bit," Nicola Reynolds said.

News Channel 8's Erin Cox spoke with the president of passenger group, the Connecticut Commuter Rail Council. He tells me they are pleased with how police are handling this. But he adds if these kind of assaults become problematic, he'd like an increased police presence to protect conductors and passengers.

Turns out such attacks are rare. MTA says five other conductor were assaulted this year. This one was the first on the New Haven line.

"Conductors are putting themselves on the line because they are requesting money," Michael Scanlon said.
