STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A gas station worker has been arrested for tampering with lottery tickets to see if they were winners.

Officers responded to the CITGO Gas Station on Barnum Ave. for a report or larceny.

According to the complaint, the gas station attendant was seen scratching off the bar code section of the lottery tickets. He would then scan the tickets to see if they were winners, police reported.

If they were not, the attendant would put them back in the ticket bin to be sold to customers.

The story was confirmed by the gas station owner.

Muhanad Almasri, 26, was charged with sixth-degree larceny.

Bond was set at $500 and a court date was set for Dec. 20 in Bridgeport.

Police say a total of four $20 tickets were discovered damaged and removed from the ticket bin.
