HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH/AP) — An inmate at the York Correctional Institution women's prison has been accused of attacking a guard with a shower curtain rod.
A Connecticut Department of Correction spokesman says the captain was struck in the head Monday afternoon and that two other correction officers were injured as they secured the inmate, 21-year-old Alyssa Fearon.
The spokesman said Tuesday that state police were called to the prison in Niantic and Fearon was charged with three counts of assault on a correction officer, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
The guards were all treated at a hospital and released.
Fearon was awaiting trial on an unrelated charge and was placed on an additional $75,000 bond pending a court appearance at New London Superior Court.
The incident is under investigation.
