HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- In-state students could pay more to go to college in Connecticut, but out-of-state students may spend less than they currently pay.
The Board of Regents for Higher Education is expected to vote on this month about the proposed tuition changes.
The plan to boost tuition and fees would impact Connecticut students at all state universities and community colleges, which have seen a real rise in admissions.
At same time, out-of-state students would see rates drop by about three percent. The thinking is that the lower cost will attract more students from outside of Connecticut.
According to a Hartford Courant report , Connecticut students at state universities would see a tuition increase of $434 to $778. Community college students would see a $188 hike.
And out-of-state students would see an average decrease of about $514. They would still pay more overall than in-state students.
UPDATE: The board's finance committee, which was expected to vote today on the proposal, has delayed its vote until March 14th. A vote by the full Board of Regents would follow on March 22.
