NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) -- The New Britain School District has been awarded a $1M Carol M. White Physical Education Program Grant.
The district was also awarded a $15,000 supplemental award.
These grants, issued by the U.S. Department of Education, are used to purchase and train teachers in a new interactive technology called HopSports.
Each New Britain school will be given a HopSports device in an effort to add more physical activity.
HopSports is a computer system attached to a projector, which projects an activity onto a wall or screen. There are sand bell weights, t-bows and mats included and has over 300 lesson plans available.
New Britain is among 56 school districts awarded in the United States, totally $27M, and is one of two school districts in Connecticut.
New Britain has applied for this grant every year since 2001.
