HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The Board of Regents for Higher Education has approved a contract for Interim President Philip Austin that will pay him $340,000 a year, the same base salary as his predecessor.

The board released Austin's contract on Thursday.

The former University of Connecticut president was named last week oversee the board after its president, Robert Kennedy, and executive vice president, Michael Meotti, resigned amid a public outcry over unauthorized pay increases for staff members totaling $250,000.

Austin has said he isn't interested in taking the job permanently.

The contract doesn't include extras Kennedy received. The Hartford Courant reported Sunday that Kennedy's contract included at least $100,000 for a bonus and expenses. Kennedy returned $25,000 from an expense account after leaving the job.
