New Britain (AP) - New Britain's school board says that it has dome some budget crunching that will save 45 teaching jobs.
The school board adopted a budget Monday that saves jobs by shifting around some money and adding more than $1.5 million from teachers' union furloughs and pay-raise delays.
However, school board president Sharon Beloin-Saavedra says the $118 million education budget will still require cutting about 25 teaching positions.
She says the actual number of people laid off would be fewer than that, considering retirements and vacant positions being carried by the school district.
