Southington (WTNH) - It was a picture perfect graduation ceremony. Proud parents capturing the moment, speeches encouraging the young adults to go out and be great. But amongst it all, a surprise reunion for Jennifer Policki, as her brother, a marine back from a tour in Afghanistan made it just in time.
They haven't seen each other in eight months. Her brother, Andy, was injured three weeks ago in Afghanistan by a roadside bomb.
"It's like slow motion and there is dirt falling everywhere," Andy said. "That is the only way I can explain it. My door halfway blew off and I pushed it open and looked around - I was like, 'what just happened to me?'"
Jennifer got her diploma and waiting for her at the end of the line, unannounced, was her brother.
"You look so good," Jennifer said, amidst tears.
"I'm so happy he's here, I'm so happy I'm graduating, it feels great," Jennifer said.
The Policki's parents were happy that their daughter and son were able to be together on this special day.
"It's a once in a lifetime chance for her to have him here," Marita Policki said. "The timing is unbelievable and it worked out. Her other brother is coming home tomorrow morning. We are one big happy family. Life is good."
The Policki's father was overjoyed.
"It was awesome. It really was nice to see. She hasn't seen Andy for almost eight months," Joe Policki said.
Jennifer's other brother is due home tomorrow morning from his tour in Afganistan.
