Lebanon, Conn. (WTNH) - A Lebanon mother says she's putting her child in danger every time she sends him off to school.

She says the van that picks up her special needs child refuses to turn up her driveway and pick him up near the safety of the house.

For years Caleb would be dropped off in his driveway. He's takes a van because he's a special needs student. But this summer the van started dropping him off at the end of the driveway, which has his parents upset.

Caleb has learning and physical disabilities and his mother, Rachel Angell is worried her son could run out into the street. He's done it before.

EastConn Transportation says it provides curb-to-curb service and parents should be responsible for coming out to the van to get their kids.

“If they want to curb-to-curb, fine,” she said. “But I want a bus with lights on it.”

Angell says without lights cars often speed past the stopped van. EastConn did come out to her Lebanon home and says pulling into the driveway isn't necessary because it is a quiet street and the driveway isn't very long.

“There's not really much of a difference between pulling into your driveway than pulling up to the curb,” Rachel Angell continued. “No there's not much difference but there is for his safety because he'll run out in the road what if there's a car coming by.”

Lisa Brown is also worried about her son John because the van makes a U-turn in the middle of the road before he is dropped off at their house.

So for now, the van will continue its curb-to-curb service and people living in the area will continue to voice their concerns.
