FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A 10-year-old girl has died after being pulled from the water in Fairfield Tuesday night.
The family was swimming in Lake Mohegan, which was closed Tuesday because of bacteria levels, when the incident occurred. Officials said signs were posted and the family was also swimming in a non-swimming area.
At one point, all four children started struggling. The family formed a human chain to attempt to pull everyone out, but the 10-year-old girl went under the water.
The girl's family was unable to find her.
A diver who was nearby went in searching for the girl. Eventually rescue crews launched their boats and the girl was located after 45 minutes.
