BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- It will be quite a sight to see at Captain's Cove in Bridgeport this weekend when five Navy 44s will navigate their way into the friendly waters.
Midshipman from the US Naval Academy will be sailing in as part of their leadership training program this summer.
"It's quite a sight," said Colin Nevins. "They all stick together keep a squadron and so it's really great to see all five boats come in and all the midshipman on deck and all ready."
Nevins should know, the recent graduate of the US Naval Academy got his start sailing at Black Rock and went on to captain the offshore sailing team for the Academy.
"It's extremely rewarding you're with a... on a a boat for a couple of days offshore," he said. "No cell phone contact, no radio contact with other people. You get really close with the people you're sailing with form really tight bonds."
He and the midshipman will be sharing that experience on the water and at the Academy with high school students at Captain's Cove on Sunday afternoon.
While the midshipman are in town they'll be staying with some host families for a couple of days, so they too will be getting a new experience.
"A lot of these kids are from California or the Midwest or the south and so I think it's really great to see what New England's like and get a feel for a different part of the country as well," Nevins said.
While high school students have been invited to meet the midshipman, Colin says anyone interested in seeing the navy sailboats are welcome to come on Sunday.
