DANBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- A 12-year-old from Bridgeport is the state spelling champ and will be heading to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.
12-year-old Abram Goda claimed top spot beating out 50 other students in this year's statewide competition.
The 7th grader goes to the Multicultural Magnet school.
He won on the word "rubicelle," which is a red or orange gem material.
"It was God's will and thank god and I studied hard and it was fun," said Goda.
"I was sitting in the front seat and jumping up and down. I didn't feel myself. I was 'what, what what happened? It was amazing," said Bahieh Jabboury, Abram's mother.
Amazing is right. Abram will now be heading to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May.
