NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — Three months after the Newtown massacre, children and teachers who survived remain on edge. Loud noises have upset some at their new school in neighboring Monroe. Signs at the school ask people to close doors softly and not drag objects across the floor.
An expert says sounds and smells associated with the shooting can bring back memories of the trauma.
One parent says her daughter asks her to immediately shut off the television if there is gunfire. She says children cling more to their parents.
Another parent says the school has done everything possible to help the children make the transition.
Teachers are trying to help the children feel comfortable while recovering themselves.
