(WTNH) - More than 19,000 customers of Connecticut Light & Power were reported without power this morning, CL&P's website showed.
There were more than 12,600 outages in Greenwich and 6,500 in Stamford as of 9:15 a.m. As of noon, power was restored to all of Stamford's customers, while more than 6,600 were still without power in Greenwich.
The Stamford Advocate reported the police department is on a generator.
The power was also out at Greenwich High School. Greenwich Patch reported the students were "corralled in football stadium".
CL&P Spokesman Mitch Gross said a problem at a substation in Stamford impacted a transmission line serving Stamford & Greenwich, which then impacted more substations in Greenwich.
Stamford Police say the outages were sporadic, but a good portion of downtown was impacted.
Around 1 p.m., CL&P reported that 100% of Bridgewater's customers were without power, about 958 customers. Over 9,300 New Milford customers were also without power.
Gross said these outages were also caused by a substation problem. New Milford Hospital was one of the affected customers.
