Shelton, Conn. (WTNH) - The house of the accused Times Square attempted bomber will be sold at auction in a foreclosure sale on Saturday.
According to Tony Koo's Real Estate Notices, the sale will start at noon at 119 Long Hill Avenue in Shelton. "I just really want it to be over," said Carol Baillargeon of Shelton. "Every time something happens there are news crews around and we just want it to go back to be peaceful."
The house has six rooms and is 1,356 square feet. It has three bedrooms, one-and-a-half baths and sits on about a tenth of an acre of land.
When asked if they would purchase the house with the stigma attached, some said they would. "I would," said Tara Thompson also of Shelton. "I don't think it's a stigma of it being haunted or anything, it's a house, the guy lived there, we don't know what he did there, but it's a house."
According to city records, Shahzad purchased the house in July 2004 and took out a mortgage for $218,400. In December of 2007, records show he got dual ownership with his wife Huma Mian and took out an additional $65,000 mortgage. In June, the Associated Press reported that Chase Home Finance received a judgment against Shahzad allowing it to auction off the home in a foreclosure sale if Shahzad did not repay his debt.
At the end of June the accused bomber pleaded guilty to charges to the Times Square bomb plot. Shazhad was not living in the house in Shelton at the time of the attempted bombing. He had moved out months before and took his family to Pakistan. He then came back to Connecticut and rented an apartment in Bridgeport.
