STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Fire officials in Stamford, where three children and two grandparents died in a Christmas Day fire last year, are using Fire Prevention Week to make sure residents can avoid or survive potentially deadly fires.
The Advocate of Stamford reports that fire officials are urging families to draw up escape routes in case of a house fire. Officials also say families need to plan two ways to get out of their homes.
As part of this week's safety campaign, firefighters will distribute fliers emphasizing the use of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and escape routes in homes.
The city passed an ordinance in August requiring smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in all private homes.
Last year's fire killed 7-year-old twins Grace and Sarah Badger, 9-year-old Lily Badger and their maternal grandparents, Lomer and Pauline Johnson.
