Westport, Conn. (WTNH) - One person has been killed and another is in critical condition after being shot at a Westport jeweler.

The shooting happened at Y.Z. Manufacturing at 431 Post Road East around 10:00 p.m. Thursday night

Police say it does not appear to be a random robbery and they believe the victims were specifically targeted.

Y.Z. Manufacturing only sees clients by appointment. Police say the suspect had been there before, either as a buyer, or pretending to be a buyer. The gunman had to be buzzed through two security doors.

Police say the owner, 65-year-old Yekutiel Zeevi of Westport, was pronounced dead at Norwalk Hospital.

An associate of the store owner, whose name is not being released, is in stable condition at Norwalk Hospital. Police say this second victim is the one who made the 911 call.

The Westport First Selectman said the shooting is a "tragedy that is beyond words for Westport."

"He was a very nice guy, he was really friendly. He was very kind in every aspect. he was giving, always, charity to people," said Eddie Elias.

Ami Dabush agreed, saying, "Very friendly, very compassionate, very down to earth. To hear something like this is just unbelievable. Simply unbelievable."

Zeevi's family has already faced an incredible loss and severe heartache when Zeevi's daughter passed away two years ago.

"It was just a couple years ago he lost his daughter to cancer, all families deserve a break, I'm speechless," said Dabush.

"She had a very long disease, and he was very, very upset about it, but through it all he remained positive in every way," said Elias.

The suspect is described as a white male, appearing to be in his 40's. He has 3 or 4 days of facial hair growth, short salt and pepper colored hair. He was approximately 5' 10 inches tall, wearing a black driving cap, black framed glasses, blue jeans, brown cowboy boots, and having a blue or green two tone jacket with a light colored stripe.

The suspect was also believed to have operated a blue 4 door "boxy" type car. Police don't known the make or license plate at this time.

Police are asking anyone who was in the Compo Shopping Center area between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Thursday and saw anything suspicious to call them at 203-341-6080.
