Bridgeport, Conn. (WTNH) - There is a unique opportunity for some brave women in uniform in Bridgeport; an opportunity which will not only benefit them but their children as well.

In just a few weeks 15 homeless female veterans won't be homeless anymore. They'll have a warm place to stay and an address to call their own.

A transitional living facility has been built at 66 Elmwood Ave., to help the woman get back on their feet. The facility will be the first of its kind in the state.

The women the VA refers to the facility will get to call it home for up to 2 years. While they live there, they will get job training, have help finding jobs, learn to cook and have access to mental health and addiction services. Additionally the home includes nine bathrooms.

Dominion Resources Incorporated presented the home with a $25,000 check on Wednesday. For fellow female vets, they know just how important it is to get this kind of support.

There are five women already on the wait list, as soon as they get the green light from the VA they'll be able to move in and finally have a place to call home.
