GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) — The state medical examiner says a man whose body was found in a Greenwich house that was filled with hoarded items and intentionally set on fire fatally shot himself.

The body of 42-year-old Dean Verboven was found in his home following the fire on Tuesday. The Greenwich Time reports that his mother, 69-year-old Barbara Verboven, is in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital.

Police and fire officials have not released the cause of the fire, which tore through the home cluttered with items, hindering response efforts.

Greenwich fire officials have said the fire was set.
