Bridgeport Police investigate homicide

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Already familiar with deadly violence, the Trumbull Gardens housing project in Bridgeport was the scene of yet another shooting Wednesday night, which left one man dead.

Calvin Rainey, who lives at Trumbull Gardens says he heard a lot of gunshots. "More than nine, back-to-back," he said.

Two young men were struck by gunfire. 19-year-old Jesus Murillo drove himself to St. Vincent Medical Center with multiple bullet wounds. 20-year-old Kaqwan Glen never regained consciousness and died at Bridgeport Hospital.

Glan is the ninth homicide victim in Bridgeport this year.

It's not known whether the two were firing at each other, but witnesses tell police they saw a suspect take off in a Dodge sedan with two other men. It's a neighborhood where violent death has become a way of life.

"I really don't know. Sometimes I'm safe, sometimes I'm not safe," Rainey said. "People need to stop killing people for some dumb stuff."

Early this morning, police had three cars hauled away from the complex, they say, for investigative purposes.

Bridgeport authorities say Glen, the young man who died, had no history with police. At last check Murillo was undergoing surgery and is in critical condition.

The Trumbull Gardens violence followed three more gunfire incidents earlier in the day in various parts of the city yesterday. There were no victims in any of those shootings.
