Mother, children die in apartment fire

Bridgeport (WTNH) - A mother and her three young children were killed early Friday after a fire in their apartment in Bridgeport, authorities said.

The fire was reported around 1:00 a.m. in the P.T. Barnum housing complex on St. Stephens Road.

Police said the mother, 22-year old Tiana Black, her four year old twin girls, Nyasija and Tyasjia Williams, as well as her five year old son, Nyshon Williams, died in the fire. 

It's not known yet how the fire started. The damage was contained to that one unit where the victims were found, a fire department official said.

Authorities say the smoke alarm did go off and that the building was up to code. Neighbors who heard the alarms banged on the family's door to try to get them to come out.
