Bridgeport, Conn. (WTNH) -- Keep them inside and keep them safe: that's the concept behind a proposed teen curfew in Bridgeport.
The curfew is under fire by the American Civil Liberties Union, it maintains this violates people's rights.
A public hearing was held Monday night to discuss the proposed curfew.
The curfew debate comes after a 14-year-old was shot and killed in the city earlier this year.
City officials who are supporting the curfew say it will keep kids off the streets and help bring crime down.
However, some aren't sure it will help at all.
"I don't know. Because the parents have to get involved and keep them in. They gotta watch 'em. And will that happen? I don't know," one woman said.
The proposal would force anyone younger than 16 to be inside by 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and by midnight on the weekends.
