NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Folks are pouring in from all over the country to Newtown to celebrate a birthday. Charlotte Bacon died in the Sandy Hook School shooting and today would have been her birthday.

They're recognizing Random Acts of kindness done by children. From opening the door, to reading senior citizens emails, the stories are endless. They're giving awards to those who really stood out and it's all in honor of Charlotte Bacon.

"There was this sort of certain boldness about her. You know, she'd see something, she'd go after it, very independent," said Dan Bacon, Charlotte's grandfather.

Carlotte Helen Bacon loved animals, had a passion for pink, and her mother lead her daisy girl scout troop.

"In their group, I think it was 10 children, but 6 of them were killed and it's not only the loss of your daughter. It's the loss of these children that meant so much to you. It's the loss of opportunities," said Dan Bacon.

Today, Charlotte would have turned 7.

"It's a good, bad day. It's a hard day, but it's a wonderfully encouraging day too," said Dan Bacon.

That's because about 100 people will fill the Newtown Healing Center in her honor to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness.

"She would be absolutely thrilled. She would say 'it's all about me' haha this is great I love it. She'd be having a blast if she knew everyone was talking about her," said Dan Bacon.

Family friend, Aaron Carlson started the group. His daughter Ava has her arm around Charlotte in this picture. They were buddies, born 3 days apart.

"She lost some friends, but she's 6-years-old and I think these children are stronger than us in a lot of these things," said Carlson.

With her help they spread the word online and stories of kindness flooded in.

"All the small acts together make more of a mountain of kindness I would say," said Carlson.

"To see the way this has mushroomed and taken off is so exciting and so satisfying. It's really a good feeling to know that good is emerging out of something so bad," said Dan Bacon.

8 people will be awarded with a prize, trophy, and check but it's not a check for them. It's money that will go to a charity of their choice.
