BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Champlain College says an 18-year-old student suffered a fatal head injury in a skateboard accident.
College spokesman Stephen Mease said in a news release Thursday evening that the medical condition of 18-year-old Peter Cernansky of Stamford, Conn., is technically listed as "critical." But Mease said Cernansky's body was being kept alive at his family's request only until his organs could be harvested for transplant.
Champlain College President David Finney offered condolences to Cernansky's parents and other family members.
Police say Cernansky was skating with two friends Tuesday when he lost control of his board, fell, and hit his head on the ground. He was rushed to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
Cernansky was a first-year student majoring in business.
