Nash may avoid daughter's high school graduation

Stamford, Conn. (WTNH) - Worries about a media circus will apparently keep Charla Nash from going to her daughter's high school graduation tonight.

Nash is the Stamford woman who got mauled by her friend's pet chimpanzee Travis last year. She is concerned she would become the focus of her daughter's Westhill High School graduation and not her daughter Briana.

Family spokesman John Orr tells the Stamford Advocate Nash had been planning to discreetly attend the ceremony in Stamford but now will not attend, and he blamed school officials for leaking the news.

The school, central office and police say they began planning in May when reports surfaced that Nash wanted to attend her daughter's graduation. The plan was for Nash to sit in the audience and hold a brief press conference afterward for a limited number of credentialed media.

Orr disputed that a press conference had been planned. He said Nash has an exclusive agreement with NBC. He says the "Today" show is planning to air a segment on her trip back to Stamford and the graduation ceremony on Friday.
