FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- An incident in a chemistry lab brought emergency crews to Warde High School in Fairfield Friday.
Around 11 a.m., Fairfield's Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a chemical release in a chemistry lab at Fairfield Warde High School on Melville Ave.
Firefighters responded to the scene, with additional response from DEEP after further reports that potassium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium iodide, and benzoic acid may have been combined during a routine classroom heating process.
First responders reported that the event had taken place early Friday morning, and the four students involved along with their teacher had been checked and released by the school nurse.
No contamination or chemical product was found in the lab, which officials say had been aired out during class.
The teacher and students were checked by a medic due to minor complaints before being released and told to follow up with their personal physician.
The classroom was cleared for occupancy shortly before 1 p.m.
Classes were not significantly disrupted.
