Community searches for lost dog

Westport, Conn. (WTNH) - It's hard to go anywhere in Fairfield county and not see the lost dog poster for an 11-year-old corgi named Andy. He's been missing for nearly two months and over that period it's been amazing just how much the community has come together to find the dog.

Ever since Andy disappeared, his owners are from Massachusetts and were visiting friends for New Year's Eve when Andy ran away. They have been driving back and forth to CT to hang up posters and search the area.

"Not knowing where he is or where he went or if he's okay," said Andy's owner, Michael Ghiggeri, "it's just cold for a couple of days and it just gets you right inside the heart."

Their angst has become an entire community's, with thousands of people stepping in to help.

"It really is amazing how people came together from different states," said Ghiggori, "and countries to do what they can to help."

Perfect strangers have created a website for Andy, and set up Twitter and Facebook accounts.

A message on the Facebook page reads, "reached out to the media and donated their time and money, all to help bring Andy home."

Their efforts are working, there have been several sightings of Andy, though he has yet to be caught.

"It gives me hope, more hope that all of these people are behind us, supporting us and it helps keep us going," said Ghiggeri. "Not that we would give up anyway, but the support drives us even more. Really the only way we can thank all these people is to find him."

Thanks to donations from perfect strangers they've been able to raise enough money to make new posters of Andy, which they'll be hanging around the area. They've also been able to make posters for other lost dogs. They hope to launch a bigger effort to help find other missing dogs in the area.

They say if you do see Andy to take out your cell phone and take a picture and then give them a call. That way they can track where Andy has been.
