NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Connecticut Department of Transportation worker was seriously injured after falling about 30 feet down a maintenance pit at the Straffilino Draw Bridge in Norwalk.
Firefighters were called to the bridge about 8:30 Saturday morning. The injured man, a 56-year-old maintenance worker, fell onto a concrete floor and suffered a serious leg injury, the Norwalk Fire Department said in a news release.
It took rescuers more than an hour and a half to get the victim safely from the bottom of the pit up to the road.
Some lanes on the bridge were blocked off during the rescue.
The Straffilino Draw Bridge connects East Norwalk and South Norwalk over the Norwalk River.
