BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Encouraging healthy eating habits is the goal of a newly formed committee in Bridgeport.
They're not the 'food police, they're educators for better eating.
According to Connecticut Post, the Bridgeport City Council Monday night unanimously approved an ordinance establishing a nine member food policy council.
Their mission is to improve the availability of healthy food in the inner city, educating residents about healthy cooking and eating, and also to promote community gardens to help people have access to fresh produce.
The Bridgeport City Council also voted Monday to sell 17 vacant lots to Habitat for Humanity for just $1 each. The non-profit has built 136 homes in Bridgeport over the past 25 years.
